Abstract

First of all, I thank Don Guillermo Malavassi, Rector of the Autonomous University of Central America and The Rumbo Magazine, for being allowed today to talk and convey to you what costa Rican industrialists think about this Initiative for the Americas.
On June 27, 1990, the President of the United States made an announcement that we have considered momentous to the future of our Continent. The strategy we now know as the Initiative for the Americas is not only a novel and new approach to trade, but it is also investment and a possible and potential solution to Latin America's debt, and which also represents, without a doubt, the most important economic proposal since the Alliance for progress of the defunct President Kennedy.
