Abstract

In this article we propose, as principal target, analyze Nicomaquean Ethic (NE)’s book I in order to ascertain the degree of incidence that fortune (týkhe)’s fluctuation have in the character of eudaímon that a man can reach. For this, we will expose conceptual aspects of the greek term (antique) eudaimonía in general, and then in NE in particular. We shall affirm that, even though if come to be eudaímon depends, largely, on the develop of a man’s virtuous character, Aristotle recognizes that fortune and tools that depends on it plays a determinate role in man’s possibilities to arise the eudaímon’s condition, because the lack or lose of certain types of externals tools entails, as a result, that the final good that everyone expect to get, the eudaimonía, no longer fulfill the fundamental requirement of being complete (téleion).
