Abstract

Academic performance is crucial, especially for students beginning their university journey, as they face new challenges and must adopt new habits in response to an increased academic workload. The COVID-19 pandemic has transformed teaching methods, increasing reliance on virtual education and altering not only learning strategies but also social dynamics among students. In demanding fields like Medicine, performance in General Biology is essential, as it lays the foundation for understanding complex biological processes. An analysis at the Universidad Autónoma de Centroamérica (UACA) from 2018 to 2024 reveals that multiple factors, including changes in teaching and extraordinary situations like the pandemic, have influenced the educational experience. This study aims to identify and analyze these factors to develop strategies that optimize learning and improve academic outcomes.
