Abstract

One of the characteristics of the evolution of Costa Rican education from the time of independence to the present day, is this mania towards revisionism and the adoption of foreign pedagogical models. How much sophisticated theory is imposed in the world of education has been applied to the letter without any suitability to our national reality. Arturo Piga, a member of the Mission that in 1935 evaluated the national education system, stated in his report: In this sense democracies often have the serious disadvantage of promoting a state of stillness or stagnation in opposition to the cultivation of great ideals and high values in culture.
